For so many of us out there, wearing a mask has kind of become second nature. Everyone is wearing their mask when they’re going into grocery stores, gas stations, work, and more. A lot of questions have been coming up in regards to wearing masks on a frequent basis.

One of the things there’s been a lot of inquiries on is bad breath. A lot of people feel like their bad breath has become more noticeable or pronounced, making them question if they really have halitosis. The other thing that a lot of people have questions on in regards to continued mask wearing is dryness and irritation on the skin around the mouth area and even on the chin. I want to talk about a few techniques you can do that might be very beneficial, especially since, in many parts of the country, wearing a mask for the foreseeable future is the new reality.

SUPPORTING YOUR ORAL HEALTH

If you are experiencing bad breath that you notice when you’re wearing your mask all day long, oftentimes, people are usually using traditional toothpastes, which often have many different chemical agents in them. It could be that you’re starting to pick up on the fuming off of those chemicals. One thing that would be advantageous to you would be to use clean formulations, which do not have chemicals and thus cannot seep out these fumes. We want to think about utilizing things from nature, including nutrients like white tea, green tea, peppermint oil, Vitamin C, and olive leaf extract. We know that these nutrients can be very supportive to the health of our gums and teeth. I would even encourage this as a lifelong practice.†

InVite Health’s PerioDental White Teath Gel is a fabulous option. It is a white tea base, but it also combines things such as peppermint oil, myrrh, zinc, Vitamin C, and coQ10. Starting your day off with a really healthy, regimented routine, as opposed to putting chemicals in our mouths, can help with this issue and benefit your overall mouth health.†

The bad breath you’re noticing could also be related to a GI issue. In that situation, we want to consider things like a probiotic on a regular basis and utilizing digestive enzymes. Taking an enzyme like Digestive Hx, for example, 15 minutes prior to eating your meals could be quite advantageous, as it allows for better and more expedient breakdown of your foods. This can often help to mitigate gas build up from residual food, which can cause odor.†

Some people may also notice dryness in the mouth associated with more regular mask usage. Something to consider to combat this issue is an herbal-based lozenge, like InVite’s PerioDental Lozenge, which gives you grape seed extract, glutathione, marshmallow extract, slippery elm, zinc, and Vitamin C. These ingredients can help fend off free radicals that form in the mouth without the use of chemicals. Herbal lozenges like this are very soothing and supportive to the normal balance within the mouth.†

SKIN CARE SOLUTIONS

We have to also think about dryness of the skin. Many people have noticed irritation around the mouth, chin, and nose. Getting into the routine of having a regimented skin care program on a daily basis could be beneficial. I would look at things with a green tea base that will also yield you other nutrients. Washing your face every day with a gentle facial cleanser that has ingredients like green tea, aloe, witch hazel, tea tree extract, and neem can be very beneficial to your skin. These ingredients can be found in our Clear Skin Care formulas, which includes the facial cleanser, facial toner, and facial moisturizer. If you are noticing that your skin does seem to have more of that drying sensation to it, I would definitely encourage you to, at minimum, to look at utilizing the moisturizer. The moisturizer is really nice. It’s a cream that’s easy to use in the morning before you leave for work. The wonderful and powerful herbal extracts in the moisturizer will help hydrate and soothe the skin while you’re at work with your mask on all day. Our formula utilizes ingredients like green tea extract, grape seed oil, aloe, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C, which are all powerful nutrients that can really help to support the skin and irritations that can arise.†

In the winter your skin turns dry, flaky, dull and itchy. Your skin loses up to 25% of its ability to hold moisture in winter months. That’s because the air inside your home and also outside is cold and much dryer in the winter. Heat in the house and the air outside during this season takes the moisture out of your skin, leaving it looking dry and lifeless. Change up your skin routine when colder weather strikes and these steps will earn you a rich winter glow!

Your Winter Skin Care Routine

Two important steps for winter skin care are exfoliating and moisturizing regularly.

Exfoliation is a first crucial step to quenching thirsty, dry skin. When dry skin builds up on the surface, it can block your moisturizer from penetrating into the skin. By exfoliating away the dead skin on the surface, it allows your moisturizer to absorb better.

Exfoliate, but replace fruit acids with an extract of red grape skin from cabernet, and Grape Seed Extract from white grapes especially chardonnay. This supplies malic acid which is great for exfoliation. It gently polishes away dull, dry skin and is perfect for everyday use, which comes in handy during the winter when skin requires the most upkeep to remove dry, dead skin.

The other advantage of Grape Extract is the powerful antioxidants they contain. No matter the climate or time of year, your skin “gets attacked by free radicals”. These are generated by the suns’ rays, by the sooty carbon from boilers in large buildings, and by pollution from auto exhaust. These particles inflame the skin and cause sun spots which you may know as liver spots, and they also lead to the breakdown of collagen which creates premature fine lines that turn into wrinkles. These grape antioxidants stabilize and restore the collagen content of your skin which improves hydration and helps fill in wrinkles.

The second crucial step is to moisturize. During the winter your face is the part of your body that is most exposed to cold weather, causing it to lose moisture the most. A rich moisturizer with the appropriate balance of ingredients that add and lock moisture in the winter will help to better retain your skin’s moisture and make it feel soft.

The best time to moisturize is shortly after cleansing, lightly pat your face dry using a towel and then apply moisturizer liberally to your skin. Do this in circular motion to encourage blood flow! Try to get a green tea based moisturizer that also supplies Thioctic Acid. These ingredients dial down a major component of the immune system that makes your skin inflamed and also makes it age prematurely. This molecule is known as NF-Kappa B and applying green tea with Thioctic Acid blocks its aging effects on your skin.

Some more tips;

Change your shower filter. Try to use a shower filter that improves chlorine and chemical ridden hard water which can help your skin feel smooth and hydrated all year long.

Change Up Your Diet. With a direct connection between the gut and skin health, increasing your daily intake of fats that fight inflammation may help with dry skin. Eat a diet rich in walnuts, olive oil, ocean fish and avocados. Also drink lots of water!

Prep Your Home. The drier the air, the drier the skin. Use a humidifier in the rooms where you spend the most time, which, in many cases, is the bedroom and den. “A cool air humidifier increases the moisture level in the air,” helping skin’s barrier stay hydrated.

With these winter skin care steps achieving soft, luminous skin is easy. Take the first steps towards achieving a winter glow today!

Collagen Supplementation for Healthy Skin

Seventy percent of our skin is made of Collagen. However, the body’s natural supply of Collagen begins to decline at about age 25, causing wrinkles and other skin health issues. Collagen production decreases at a rate of about 1.5% per year; that means by age 60, you’ve lost about half of your natural collagen supply! InVite®’s Collagen powder formula helps restore the body’s Collagen supply.

InVite®’s unique Collagen powder supplement provides additional ingredients to support Collagen’s role in the body, including Silica from Horsetail Rush Stem Extract and Boswellia Extract, that combines with Collagen and Vitamin D in the body to create the organic matrix of the bone, which calcium attaches to for bone strengthening. Silica also combines with Collagen to create hair, skin, nails, tendons, cartilage and ligaments.
